This is all well and good but the Oregon-Oregon State rivalry can't really be considered such anymore. Times change, circumstances change. What existed for 130 years has forever been altered. One school has ascended and the other school has been demoted. It is neither compelling or frankly intellectually honest to pretend differently. There is little fan interest in watching a big school drowning in cash decimate another school who is begging for lunch money. That's why no one really cares when Oregon plays Portland State or USC plays UC Santa Barbara. It's like the 8th grade bully beating up a 2nd grader on the playground and that isn't just wrong it's not pretty to watch. So Scott Barnes is delusional to believe this matters to anyone really in the grand scheme of things. He is a giant problem for OSU and has been for some time. This perspective of his only belies how much he's failed as a leader of the athletic department.

The ADs from each school need to just stop this nonsense. If there ever comes a time where the revenue streams to each school are within 25% of one another then maybe it makes sense to play the game again. As it stands today, it's just dumb to continue.

No the obstacle is Scott Barnes himself. Notice how the puff pieces are coming out trying to get people to forget that he gave himself an extension and a raise while the rest of the department was taking on cuts and firings. This is Leisure Suit Larry Scott all over again!

Yeah ---the obstacle IS the way. It's what defines and shapes you. A meaningful life involves looking for and embracing challenge...and avoiding ease. I admire people who use their limited resources to solve difficulties...and find a way to win when the odds are very much against them.
